One day, while exploring the surface, he comes across a communication capsule from planet Iscandar, which resides 148,000 light years away from Earth. In order to retrieve the substance from Iscandar, the Defense Force of Earth builds Space Battleship Yamato. I was a little taken aback by the main character evoking the memory of the real Yamato's kamikaze run against American forces on Okinawa in '45, though. This, I attributed, to the target audience of the original animated series. Message the mods so it can be removed.
There were a few plot points that were changed to make it a little more interesting but overall the essence of the series is there. To me that is pretty par for the course when watching Japanese films. Within 73 days, the radiation will drive the rest of humanity to extinction and the Gamilas will inhabit the Earth. I was ready to see just how this movie was going to be pulled off. The Gamilons drops meteor bombs upon Earth and kill most of the inhabitants. His main objective is to find out why Okita let his brother die, not knowing the sacrifice his brother made for the good of others.
Okita had kind of made up the story of the device but at the coordinates is an alien life form that takes possession of Yuki and grants the wish that Earth be saved from radiation. For me that was a good thing. Within one year, the radiation will drive the rest of humanity to extinction. Susume Kodai comes out of retirement and leads the crew that will man Space Battleship Yamato. Susumu Kodai is able to ascertain that on Iscandar they have a substance to remove the radioactive material plaguing the surface of Earth. Yuki and Kodai make it back to the Yamato while the two remaining battalion members sacrifice themselves and destroy the defense system of the planet. I wish Mr Kimura would shed a few tears, that would have made his performance more believable.
Then again Japanese studios don't have the budget that Hollywood does. Only two ships remain of the earth fleet and one of them, the Yukikaze is severely damaged. Susume Kodai comes out of retirement and leads the crew that will man Space Battleship Yamato. The wave motion gun has been jammed with a large object in its muzzle and firing it will destroy the Yamato. The call goes out for volunteers to enlist and Kodai takes the challenge. A good opportunity to learn. This is a rarity these days, especially with all the filth coming out of American and European films.
The only other sci-fi that got it right was Babylon 5. Those that remain live underground. In 2199, five years after the Gamilas launch attacks on Earth, the planet has been ravaged by the aliens' radiation bombs and the remnants of humanity have moved underground. Okay so I watched it. In the year 2199, Earth has been in a five year battle with an alien race known as Gamilas. Overall, their performances are well delivered and their friendships believable.
One day, former pilot Susumu Kodai discovers a message capsule sent from the planet Iskandar that tells of a device that can remove the radiation from the Earth's surface. Up until the bridge scene right at the very end, I was actually not aware of the time passing. I watched and loved the anime 'Starblazers' as a kid and now 30+ years on I find out they've made a live action version of the series that I knew absolutely nothing about! Okita has the last remaining battleship fitted with this new technology so they can make the voyage to Iskandar. This I was seriously looking forward to, but was left disappointed. I, like just about every other kid my age, was obsessed with Star Wars.
The Earth Defense Force rebuilds the battleship Yamato with a new type of propulsion system to make the 148,000 light year trip to Iscandar in hopes of saving the Earth. Saw nothing wrong at all with the effects. I guess one has to be a die-hard fan not to find that scene particularly long-winded. . Each episode was shown in order so you had to tune in each week or possibly day…my mind is a little fuzzy on this aspect to be able to follow what was going on. The weapon is located deep inside the ship and basically uses the entire vessel as a cannon since the mouth of the weapon is located at the nose. Our bot automatically removes dead links, this may have been what happened, message mods to inquire.
This enables her to make the long voyage to Iskandar and back in hopes of saving the Earth. There is little feelings of romance between Kodai Susumu and Mori Yuki. There wasn't enough battle footage of the Yamato and her enemies. Upon watching the first episode my mind was blown! The United Nations of Space Administration rebuilds the battleship Yamato, with a new type of propulsion system - the Wave Motion Engine. The Yamato and its crew finally make it to Iskandar and find themselves faced with a huge Gamilas fleet.
This enables her to make the long voyage to Iskandar and back in hopes of saving the Earth. In order to retrieve the substance from Iscandar, the Defense Force of Earth builds Space Battleship Yamato. The Gamilons drops meteor bombs upon Earth and kill most of the inhabitants. There are a few flaws in the movie I thought needed a bit more work on. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Susumu Kodai Takuya Kimura is a former army pilot now retired.
