Do you have any idea what the cause of this problem is, and how I might find a solution to it? I figured there might be folks out there that have been experiencing similar weird stuff and I could help them out by writing up what I did to fix my machine. It's really hard to me to say how often the freezes are happening. Id rather destroy it via over use not abuse!! He reset it back to factory defaults and rebuilt from scratch and now it works great again. Now when I open it It would not react to my finger touch commands. After unboxing, setting it up, and updating it, the tablet freezes at random. It freezes for anywhere from 2 to 20 seconds and can happen a few times per minute at the worst. With freezing I meant that nothing was working, mouse, keyboard, touch screen, windows button, bit the screen was on and showed a static desktop. Glad you were able to exchange, pita to fix. It recognizes and uses the on screen keyboard automatically when on the desktop. Then I tried to go thru the additional steps you outlined but got stymied when I touched the keyboard line under device manager. Cori, First try holding the power button down for 10-20 seconds then restarting the Surface to see if it can recover. On the first machine, I had trusted my automatic backups with the writing software, but even the automatic backup was corrupted. This problem started about the middle of last week.

It displayed the same characteristics as my keyboard. I bought the refurbished Surface through Amazon through Dealfisher and it was supposed to have a 1-year warranty.
