The original made so little impression on me that I didn't remember much of what it was about. The cantankerous Rooster is hired by a headstrong young girl Kim Darby to find the man who murdered her father and fled with the family savings. Also very prominent in the film is the beautiful score by Carter Burwell. I felt transported to another time period of the old western. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes.
A wonderful performance, thoroughly entertaining and deep. I love the characters' precise way of speaking, their beautiful diction -- an interesting touch I don't believe I've ever seen in a western. I don't mind a little personal chaffing but I won't hear anything against the Ranger troop from a man like you. To aid her, she hires the toughest U. LaBoeuf: Yes, that is the way! Their odyssey takes them from Fort Smith, Arkansas, deep into the Indian Territory present day Oklahoma to find their man.
The atmosphere in the film is just right to make it feel like this was shot forty years ago with the technology of today. His attitude , his look and demeanor are perfect! In classic Coen fashion, the use of language is very much emphasized in True Grit. LaBoeuf: My shaggy horse will be galloping when that big American stud of yours is winded and collapsed. True Grit is not chock full of gunslinging action and doesn't really get the adrenaline flowing until the latter half of the film, but what the film lacks in action is made up with longwinded and unintelligible ramblings of a colorful drunk, the heavy detailing of a young girl stopping at nothing to revenge her father's death, and a Texas ranger who spends his time trying to convince everyone that he deserves to be respected. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him.
Mattie Ross is so tenacious that were she to grow up and become a lawyer, I would want her to defend me if I got myself into trouble, or I would want her to prosecute if someone wronged me. First time I saw it I thought he overplayed it, now I see that he completely possesses the Rooster Cogburn character and does not exceed what it demands. True Grit is a powerful story of vengeance and valor set in an unforgiving and unpredictable frontier where justice is simple and mercy is rare. But what you are capable of understanding is pretty brilliant whether Cogburn is telling a story from his past and letting his dry humor shine through, trying to convince LaBoeuf to let him rip out his tongue, or drunkenly trying to shoot cornbread he threw into the air to prove that he's a good shot, Cogburn is a rather colorful character that Bridges brilliantly portrays. It is a wonderful performance playing to all of Bridges' best abilities as an actor, and it is just a joy to watch.
This new version is a whole new story than the one written for John Wayne. For her first film, Hailee Steinfeld is impressive in an extraordinary kind of way. The characters have a very distinct use of words, lifted right out of the novel and, as it feels at least, right out of the time period the film takes place in. Along the way, our little group also runs into the likes of Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney, the object of the search because he killed Mattie's father and she will not be deterred from her quest to see him punished; and Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned Pepper. Being a major fan of Western movies, I was really interested how it would turn out. We fade-in to a light source slowly emerging on a black screen as the blurry scene slowly begins to focus and we're shown the first tragedy of the film. I foresee great things from Steinfeld in the future.
I am one who absolutely hates re-makes. In 1970, John Wayne earned an Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken, uncouth and totally fearless one-eyed U. So see the old movie if you want to make a comparison, but I don't know that I'd waste my time on it. When Cogburn's employer insists on accompanying the old gunfighter, sparks fly. The Coens have always been impeccably tuned in to language and accents, from the most creative use of swear words in The Big Lebowski and Burn After Reading to the colorful, stylized prose of The Hudsucker Proxy and The Man Who Wasn't There to the very distinct accents in Raising Arizona, Fargo, O Brother, Where Art Thou? Rooster Cogburn: This is like women talking. Merely recall Rooster Cogburn's eye patch. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes.
To aid her, she hires the toughest U. Rooster Cogburn is another memorable character to add to Jeff Bridges resume that he portrays to drunken excellence. I wanted the movie to be more faithful to it's original source material, Charles Portis novel, than the 1969 film had been. The story line's are similar, but that's it. Other returning collaborators are a number of the cast members.
Rooster Cogburn: How long have you boys been mounted on sheep down there? It hearkens back to his more melodic work on the Coen brothers' earlier films, especially Miller's Crossing. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. Discaimer: Putlocker is a legal Website which indexes and Embeds links to external sites such as Putlocker, SockShare, Thevideo, Idowatch, Netu. LaBoeuf: You are getting ready to show your ignorance now, Cogburn. Matt Damon and Josh Brolin were as usual amazing. The Brothers Coen have justified their choice to adapt Charles Portis' novel, not remake the John Wayne classic.
This is a great movie, with truly great acting for all involved. The engrossing dialogue will put off some, but is probably the aspect of the film that drives it the most. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. Marshall with an affinity for drinking and. Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. Great story, great performances, a movie movie up there with Hollywood's best. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.
I always go backwards when I back up. It is a beautiful piece of music: dramatic but not heavy- handed, whimsical but with a hint of darkness to it. Despite the film being a little slow at times, everything else in the film is so fantastic that it certainly should be considered one of the last must see films of the year. True Grit 2010 Subtitles Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. His performance showed much more experience, strength and power, the performance was pretty much unforgettable.
