If I go to system properties it says 8gb memory there and I can definately tell a difference with programs opening if I take out 4gb. I am running 32bit beta right now and have 8gb memory installed. The extra steps are merely to provide a fallback if any software causes crashing or other issues because of the patch which will stop you booting.
